Why do we delight in God? The answer to that must be because He is worthy; He is magnificently wonderful and supremely excellent. If my answer is simply because He can help me and I do not have a delight in His character, then I have a problem. Our delight in God must be a response to His worth, not a response to our welfare.
God is glorified by His name being proclaimed, observed, or experienced, but most fully by being delighted in. This is how our delight in Him causes us to do genuine, sincere, and loving deeds. And it is important to have these reasons in view, for it is possible to seek to glorify Him in the wrong way. For example, if we have as our hidden motives the idea that we will be exalted when people see us act kindly, and think God will be glorified by that, we are deluding ourselves. Pursuing God's glory in doing good requires doing it for the right reasons. May we do it because He makes us happy and we cherish seeing more of Him and we delight in the joy of meeting another's need so that they, too, may glorify God. Did you know that when you do good for someone, you are doubling your joy in God through the delight of simply sharing that joy.
LOVE'S DELIGHT
With love, our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ
Has quickened us from the dead;
With love, He holds us near to His royal bosom,
As a groom delights in the bride He has wed.
With love she looks up into His eyes,
And sees a strength so gentle, yet strong;
In love, she no longer feels unloved or lonely ...
United in Christ is where she truly belongs.
